The state forest property of San Matteo (on the slopes of Mount Erice in the Province of Trapani) and the Island of Pantelleria are the scene for the Pilot Project for the Restoration of the Breed of Pantellerian Donkey achieved by the Azienda Foreste Demaniali della Regione Siciliana under the political responsibility for Conservation of the Environment and Gestation of Protected Areas. The authentic text and imaginative imagery of this documentary relate the phases of the careful recovery, begun in 1989, with the purpose of reintroducing the restored breed in its original habitat in May of 2007.
