Paceco has traditions to remember and send, monuments that preserve, the natural beauty of a city that values its economic resources to exploit.

In the certainty and in awareness of the importance of its glorious pass, Paceco can and must find the stimulus to recover its own identity, therefore, she can defeat the pain of oblivion.

At the westernmost point of Sicily, there where the Mediterranean and Tyrrhenian Seas meet, history and myth conspire to bring to life an incomparable and fascinating ambience.

Erice, the mountain known for centuries as "San Giuliano", towers over a mild valley suffused with a common history of customs, symbiotic lifestyle and civility.

During a spontaneous and leisurely economic and social development involving the countryside of Erice, the pervasive agricultural practice and the popular devotional sentiment have determined the rise of settlements around courtyards and sanctuaries in small villages and maritime towns whose growth have facilitated the rise of urban centers, now become autonomous Communes.

A history begun centuries ago, yet still flourishing today. A history written in the pathways of Nature, on the crystalline seas, on the walls of courtyards and towers, on the naked earth under the clear sky.

A history that is the patrimony of each individual town and of all who, whether fom Paceco to Valderice, from Buseto Palizzolo to Custonaci out to San Vito Lo Capo, daily ehert themselves to render eternal legends and myths and to preserve from oblivion one of Sicily`s most fascinating locales.

Built from nothing at the beginning of the XVII century, by will of Placido Fardella, a rich nobleman from Trapani, Paceco is a center rich of exceptional humanity, a land where one can feel the presence of great endowments and cultural values, perhaps never expressed in their completeness.

Inhabited since the Paleolithic and Neolithic eras, the territory of Paceco is characterized by the court-yards and villas -evidence of the peasant civilization, and of the ancient noble`s good taste- and by enchanting oasis of peace, where the Mediterranean vegetation is still intact, and offers marvelous scenarios at sight.

The marquis of Torrearsa`s little house, the Misiligiafari tower, the Castellaccio, the churches, the country roads and their ancient charm, the agricultural products, the salt mines, the archeological findings: they all tell the story of Paceco`s slow, endured journey towards emancipation, and its identity research.

Dattilo is a small rural suburb with a fairly recent history, which has been wrapped by oblivion for decades, and had almost been forgotten. In 1985, the town rediscovered the desire to recuperate its own past, its own culture, and its own traditions, thus becoming a propelling center of life, and center of a grand collective celebration, the feast of St. Joseph.

Some of the characteristics are: the traditional "vampata" (great fire), which dissolves the last winter cold, and is propitiatory of a good harvest; the procession, which seals the strong relationship between Dattilo and its patron Saint; the allegorical wagons, which represent the liveliest expression of a hard working community; the typical bread made during the occasion, a masterpiece of figurative expressiveness, and its making process becomes a ritual, in which the popular art and the sacred blend, becoming one; last but not least, the "`u mmitu"(the invitation), and the "tuppuliata"(the knocking), and more than 100 dishes, which are prepared and served on the grand stage to the Scared Family, a moment in which the community comes together, sharing the meal, and the bread is distributed to all.

All this takes place during the days of the Festivity, and is the result of the community`s energy and will to take possession of the vital element represented by the knowledge of the fertility and productiveness of the town`s culture. Dattilo`s St. Joseph Feast donates unforgettable emotions to visitors and to the local habitants, and this documentary relives the characteristic sounds, and the evocative images, poems of an invading celebration of life, that fascinates us with its wonderful simplicity.
